What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a member-owned financial cooperative designed to help members help themselves financially. Every credit union member is also a credit union "owner." Unlike a bank, there are no outside stockholders that receive "profits." Credit unions return their "profits" to their members in the form of better rates and lower fees. As a credit union member, you democratically elect the volunteer Board of Directors to run the credit union. The credit union's paid, professional staff reports to the Board of Directors.

Tell me more about Henrico FCU specifically.

Henrico FCU isn't your typical financial institution. We're exceptional...from every perspective.

Like all credit unions, we are a not-for-profit cooperative. Our philosophy mirrors the traditional credit union philosophy of "people helping people." Henrico Federal Credit Union exists to provide our members (over 17,000 around the world) with exceptional access to financial products and services. It is a great compliment to find that while our members may leave the area, they continue to maintain their relationship with us here in Henrico.

In the late 1960's a handful of Henrico County employees pulled together to create Henrico Federal Credit Union. Since 1967, we've been serving Henrico County employees and their family members, and we are thrilled that our core members continue to return to us year after year.

Now, as the Richmond-area's first community chartered credit union, we can serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Henrico. As a result, more and more people are hearing about the amazing products and exceptional service that our members receive; and we are growing in leaps and bounds!!

We take our responsibilities very seriously here; our credit union leaders care about the numbers AND the people. We work hard in this fast-paced environment solving problems and finding ways to improve ourselves and our credit union every day.
